He has the ability to see what he refers to as Goblins. Goblins are demons that are disguised as humans. As a young boy he had to kill his uncle because he was one. Since no one else can see the Goblins for what they truly are, Slim has been on the run from the law ever since. Over the years his quest to destroy as many Goblins as possible has become an obsession. It is that obsession that eventually leads him into one particular carnival. There he meets the disfigured strong man Joel Truck who can also see the Goblins, and the beautiful Rya who becomes the love of Slim's life. Now together the three must fight to stop the Goblins before it is too late! Dean Koontz's ' Twilight Eyes ' is a literary masterpiece that any fan of fiction should read. There are two things about the novel that really set it apart from the rest. The first being the carnival atmosphere and ' carnies'. The carnies are almost like a seperate society that lives as one big family. Koontz makes you feel like you are a part of it with his beautiful description of the lifestyle. It is also entertaining the way that Koontz describes how the games are run and how they are always looking for easy 'marks'. This is the second carnival tale that Koontz has written, with 'The Funhouse' being the first. 'Twilight Eyes' manages to be even better than its predecessor. The novel also provides for some twists and turns that will definately shock you, and the ending is very satisfying unlike the ending in 'The Funhouse'. Only good-hearted Cary seemed to care, and since it was revealed that she and Cary weren't truly cousins, the affection that had always surged between them now crested in thrilling waves. But Melody knew she could never truly echo Cary's loving promises until she discovered her own buried identity. Despite Grandma Olivia's daggerlike threats, Melody sought out Belinda, a mysterious, half-crazy woman who was her real grandmother. So begins the heartbreaking magical story of the Casteel family, continued in Dark Angel, Fallen Hearts, Gates of Paradise and Web of Dreams. --back cover.

Publisher:

HarperCollins

Year:

2012

Binding:

Paperback

ISBN:

9780007926107

Condition:

Near Mint

Note: This image is from a stock photo and may differ from the actual cover.

Publisher:

Knight

Year:

2003

Binding:

Paperback

ISBN:

9781860196423

Condition:

Fair

Description:

Spine creased; small stain inside front cover adn first page; marks on text block edge.

Note: This image is from a stock photo and may differ from the actual cover.

In the heart of the bayou, Ruby Landry lives a simple, happy life. But innocence can't last forever... The only family Ruby Landry has ever known are her loving guardian, Grandmère Catherine, a Cajun spiritual healer, and her drunken, outcast Grandpère Jack. Although thinking about her dead mother and mysterious father sometimes makes her feel as mournful as the wind sighing through the Spanish moss, Ruby is grateful for all she has. Her life is filled with hope and promise... especially when her attraction for handsome Paul Tate blossoms into a mysterious, wonderful love. But Paul's wealthy parents forbid him to associate with a poor Landry, and Grandmère urges her to follow her dream of becoming a great painter, foreseeing a time when Ruby will be surrounded with riches in the dazzling city of New Orleans! Yet she cannot know how close that uncertain future looms.... In a faded photograph, Ruby glimpses for the first time the image of her father -- and learns of a shameful deception and a shocking scheme of blackmail that now must come to light. Stunned by these revelations, she is devastated when Grandmère dies, leaving her to seek out her father in his vast New Orleans mansion. There, in a house of lies, madness, and cruel torment, Ruby clings to her memories of Paul to keep her heart alive. For only their love can save her now.... The horror of what the vampires did is too close, the wounds too fresh. But when Jameson Arkeley, broken and barely recognisable, comes to her with an unfathomable, unholy discovery, her resolve crumbles. Arkeley leads Caxton to a tomb in Gettysburg recently excavated by a local archaeology professor. While the town, with its legendary role in the Civil War's worst battle, is no stranger to cemeteries, this one is remarkably, eerily different. In it lie 100 coffins - 99 of them occupied by vampires, who, luckily, are missing their hearts. But one of the coffins is empty and smashed to pieces. Who is the missing vampire? Does he have access to the 99 hearts that, if placed back in the bodies of their owners, could reanimate an entire bloodthirsty army? How did the vampires end up there, undisturbed and undiscovered for 150 years? The answer lies in Civil War documents that contain sinister secrets about the newly found coffins - secrets that Laura Caxton is about to uncover as she is thrown into a deadly, gruesome mission of saving an entire town from a mass invasion of the undead...

Publisher:

Allen & Unwin

Year:

2008

Binding:

Paperback

ISBN:

9781741755930

Condition:

Good

Note: This image is from a stock photo and may differ from the actual cover.

Horrible things move through the shadows of our world-bloodsuckers, Full Bloods and mongrel beasts, shapeshifters and minor freaks. One day out walking he observes a pair of beautiful white-furred animals he has never seen before: as big as dogs, maybe sixty or seventy pounds, but they are not dogs. They seem to be at play ... Grady can find no animal like them in reference books. Then he comes face to face with the two animals: they are more beautiful than he could have imagined. They are unlike anything he can name! Soon they are taking food from him. A sudden wonder has come into his life, not to mention a deep mystery. Grady's friend Cammy Rivers is a vet. She is stunned by the two creatures - and sends photos over the Internet to inquire of colleagues in far places if they can identify the animals. Before they know what is happening, Homeland Security has quarantined square miles of wildland surrounding Grady's home and confined both Grady and Cammy there while biologists and assorted scientists capture, confine and run tests on the creatures. Angered and alarmed Grady and Cammy free the captives and go on the run. A pursuit of hair-raising suspense begins, with no happy ending in prospect ... Tim's friend, Rooney, owns a workingman's bar, Lamplighter Tavern, where the eccentric customers inspire Tim's deadpan wit. On a Monday evening, the bar is nearly deserted. A nervous man, about Tim's own age, sits down one stool from Tim, orders a beer. He glances at Tim, then asks, 'Are you him?' His sense of fun engaged, Tim says, 'Who else would I be?' Tim's game is to sustain an oblique conversation until the stranger realizes his mistake. But the man slides a fat manila envelope along the bar. 'Half of it's there. The rest when she's gone.' Another stranger, an intense-looking man, again about Tim's age, enters the bar, looks around, comes towards Tim, and sits where the first stranger sat. He orders a beer. He says nothing. Tim says nothing. The guy glances at the manila envelope. He's the man who was supposed to get the envelope. He thinks Tim wants to hire him to kill the woman! Shaken, thinking fast, Tim says he's had a change of heart. He removes the picture of the woman from the envelope, puts it aside, closes the envelope, passes it to the stranger. 'Half what we agreed - for doing nothing. Call it a no-kill fee.'. He ignores the scathing review in a national newspaper. He has no idea that it's just the opening move in a campaign of terror that will wreck his life and then kill him . . . or try to, along with his loved ones. Literally everyone he knows tells him to let it go, take no notice whatever of the review. Even Milo his six-year-old son tells him to let it go. Only their dog Lassie (NOT a collie) has no opinion on the subject - though it's possible only she would have perceived, in her dog wisdom, the sinister character of the reviewer, had she met him. A pity, then, that Lassie is not with Cubby and Milo when they go together to a restaurant . . . where the reviewer, Shearman Waxx, is also having lunch. Waxx is a feared and therefore revered critic with an aura of mystery about him that has carried him far as an abiter of taste. Observing the man, Cubby stews about the egregious review Waxx wrote of his latest novel, which, from the errors it contained, suggests Waxx had not even read it. This innocent encounter will escalate into a war because Waxx is not merely a ferocious and ruthless enemy, but a sociopath for the age. Everything that Cubby holds dear in this world is suddenly at risk. And when it seems that the terror can reach no greater height, Waxx s mother enters the fray . . . the terror has just begun.
